Vire BVR Marine Engine
Removal

Procedure

Removing the Vire BVR

    Remove carburettor

      2 10mm nuts

    Gear linkages

      custom

    Propshaft coupling

unbolt it at the the flange three 13mm bolts

tie the shaft so it wont drop aft and cause a sinking disaster later

remove water pump to exhaust union(13mm brass pipe nut)

remove pump inlet gose and cock/block off to prevent sinking (jubilee clip)

remove Exhaust from cylinder & tie up above waterline/block up holes

2 13mm nust/studs will need high quality 3/8 drive 6 sided socket, and 4 inch extension bar, as they are often in poor/annealed condition

remove electrical cables from external kill switch if fitted

(earth from engine switched to black magneto casing wire)

remove dynastart as complete unit, thus saving time on wiring.

(if you do remove it, paint/mark wires to ensure correct refitment)

    unbolt engine mounting bolts

      usually 4 17mm nylock nuts

lift out engine and gearbox together

use boom/topping lift/mainsheet if possible to transfer safely ashore

I can carry the whole engine - just walking, but it is easier if you carry the dynastart seperately, be careful not to stress exhaust elbow which is brittle.
